Bhutan Visa for Indians

Indian travellers do not require a visa to travel to Bhutan

Indian travellers do not require a visa to travel to Bhutan however you must procure an entry permit online. While visiting Bhutan, you need to have the following documentation:

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months of validity or Voter ID card
  • Online Permit to visit Bhutan or receive a permit at the port of entry
  • Travel Insurance 

While in Bhutan, you will have to pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of Rs. 1200 per day for adults. Kids below the age of 6 are exempted from SDF and kids between the ages of 6-12 will get a 50% concession on the SDF.

  • Do I need to pay any fee while visiting Bhutan?

    Bhutan levies a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) on all Indian travellers visiting Bhutan. You will be charged Rs. 1200 per day as the SDF. If you have kids accompanying you, any kid below the age of 6 is exempt from paying SDF, and kids between the ages of 6-12 will get a 50% concession on the SDF.

  • Can I visit Bhutan by road?

    Yes, you can enter Bhutan by road from India. You can enter from the Pedestrian Terminal at Phuentsholing located at the Jaigaon-Phuentsholing border.

  • Can I drive in my own car to Bhutan?

    Yes, Indians can drive their own cars to Bhutan and drive in the designated zone. If you wish to go beyond the Rinchending Check Post in Phuentsholing, then you will have to pay a green tax of Rs. 4500 per day. You will also require the following documents:

    • Original driving license
    • Original Registration Certificate (Vehicle Registration shall not be more than 10 years from the date of registration)
    • Vehicle Insurance
    • Vehicle emission and roadworthiness certificate
    • The owner of the vehicle must be driving the vehicle. If the driver and owner are different, an authority letter from the owner to the driver is required.
  • How does the entry permit work in Bhutan?

    You can apply for the entry permit online or can also get the permit at the Pedestrian Terminal at Phuentsholing located at the Jaigaon-Phuentsholing border which is open 24 hours 7 days a week. If you are visiting Phuentsholing only for less than 24 hours, then you do not require a permit.

    On successful registration, a QR code will be generated which is required to be presented at the immigration counter with other documents.
